Education and Artificial Intelligence Technology

Artificial Intelligence is the most trending modern technology which shall be part of every software in near future, thus impacting the future of education and fundamentally influencing the society. The field of education has witnessed an exponential growth in the number of students interested in online learning which gives rise to the need of new and emerging technologies that the education sector intends to incorporate. Such external demands have posed challenge to the internal factors of the education providers which need to evolve in order to sustain financially viable education. Institutions have integrated AI products with their IT system which shall offer virtual advice to students covering substantial geographical locations. Cost-effective solutions like Chatbots, Machine learning (ML) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) shall reap optimum benefits to the institutions and teachers as well as the most important stakeholders, students. The three use cases will substantially facilitate the institutions in managing student interactions and mitigating approval delays, admissions, student queries and assessments.

Chatbots are software applications which work as chat robots or virtual assistants by interacting with users through voice or text using user-friendly languages (Hien, 2018). It shall perform services in this case for users mainly students. Chatbots work on either fixed set of rules or learn with user’s inputs. The benefits of chat bot include increased student motivation, facilitation of absorbing information, better communication process, and imitation of personal relationship during communication. The advanced chatbots use machine learning systems to offer services without being explicitly programmed. They can be used as personal learning coach for recommending content and analyzing and evaluating skills, helping learners with different learning speed. ML can help personalize learning progress of students, making it more effective (Korkmaz, 2019). RPA use case of automated answer sheet evaluation can be beneficial for the education institutions (Rodríguez, 2019) on the basis of the inputs provided by the teacher. RPA can calculate and generate scores which can be communicated to students. One of the basic functions of these use cases is that they can operate as learning aids by repeating lessons as soon as learners forget them and students can provide feedback on course. The most interesting function of chatbots is that they can be trained to solve queries about the study of the subject, since this encourages learning supports conveniently and faster.

AI technology further includes cloud-based chatbots in order to interact with more students, offering immediate response and increasing the number of enrolments. The modern technology of AI based chatbot helps as a virtual assistant for customer service processes as well. Integration of the AI technology with existing IT landscape in the field of education is the critical area of concern. It is recommended that different chatbot configurations along with cloud based chatbots be explored deeply to understand how optimum outcomes through the chatbot integration may be achieved in education sector. A detailed study of the three use cases is recommended to enhance the future scope of offering education to students at their doorstep.

Artificial Intelligence is a driving technological force in the education industry. AI in education has made substantial progress in effective one-on-one tutoring, building effective virtual classrooms and the like. The ability of a computer-controlled machine to perform tasks in human-like manner has evolved to an extent where machine intelligence can perform various information management and administrative systems. It has outperformed the functions of humans in various fields. Students have constant requirement of assistance in work submission, subject registration, receiving schedule for examination and score after assessment. Educational institutions, as all the other industry sectors, are pouring enormous amounts of money into widening the scope of AI into personalized education. They are exploring ways in which AI can be beneficial as the teaching and learning aid specially during the time of pandemic.
